Windows Threshold is said to be the first stepping stone towards a cloud-first operating system. We already know about the ability to upgrade builds in Windows Threshold, and it appears the operating system is set to go the way of Azure and Office 365 by releasing updates to the operating system constantly. This is for both Threshold on the desktop and Threshold on tablets and phones.
Windows Threshold could be the last major version of Windows for a while. With this new update schedule, no longer will there be a Windows 10 or Windows 11, instead all the new features will come to Threshold, which makes us believe Windows 9 may not be the final name, more "Windows One"?
Now the only question remains is whether or not this new update schedule will be subscription-based. Since Microsoft is planning to make Windows Threshold free for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users, we're not too sure whether they're going to price updates via a subscription or just make everything free. We'll have to wait and see.
